We are delighted to announce Surréalistes en Jeu, a collaboration between the Backroom Foundation, RAW (Rediscovering Art by Women) and John Swarbrooke Fine Art. Spanning two centuries of Surrealism, the exhibition and event programme explore the role of play in the Surrealist vision, from the Cadavre Exquis (Exquisite Corpse) game played by the first generation of Surrealists to the continuing innovation in materials such as collage and photographic print.
Artists will include Man Ray and Juliet Man Ray, Meret Oppenheim and Ithell Colquhoun. A new collection of photographs by Anna Sampson which continue the legacy of the Surrealists will be displayed around the performance space.
A special performance by Rotten Babe will also take place on October 24th inspired by the works on display as well as Simone from Georges Bataille's Story of the Eye'.
